Download Symetri from the App Store and open it. Tap the "+" button to create your first case. Give it a name, choose a treatment type, then import your before and after photos from your camera roll. The App will guide you through the comparison and editing tools from there.
Symetri starts with a 14-day free trial — full access to every feature with up to 5 cases, no credit card required. After the trial, Symetri Pro is $89/month for unlimited cases and all features. The subscription is managed through your Apple ID and can be cancelled anytime from iOS Settings.
Your cases stay on your iPhone. Because Symetri stores everything locally — not in the cloud — nothing is deleted when a subscription ends. You keep view-only access to existing cases; creating new cases, editing, and exporting require an active subscription.
Refund requests are handled directly by Apple under their standard App Store refund policy. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, and choose the Symetri charge to request a refund. Symetri itself does not process refunds because the subscription is billed by Apple, not by us.
Not at the moment. Each practitioner installs Symetri on their own iPhone and runs their own subscription through their Apple ID. Because cases are stored per-device with no cloud sync, each team member has their own private patient library — which some clinics actually prefer for compliance reasons.
No Symetri account, sign-up, or email address is required. The free trial and subscription are handled through your existing Apple ID (the same one you use to install apps), so you never hand your patient photos or credentials to us. Your data stays on your iPhone — there is no Symetri cloud sync or server-side profile.
Not by Symetri. All photos and patient cases are stored entirely on your iPhone. Symetri has no backend — we literally have no infrastructure that could receive your data. All AI processing (face alignment, background removal) also runs locally on your device.
If you have iCloud Backup enabled, iOS may include Symetri's local data in the encrypted device backup — that backup is controlled by iOS and Apple, not by Symetri. For stricter HIPAA posture, you can exclude Symetri from iCloud Backup:
Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage › Backups › This iPhone › toggle Symetri off.
We recommend doing this if your compliance posture requires that patient photos never leave the device under any circumstance.

Symetri is HIPAA-friendly by design. Because Symetri never receives, transmits, or stores patient PHI — all processing and storage is 100% on-device — no Business Associate Agreement (BAA) is required. There is no Symetri server that could become a business associate. That said, compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, and other healthcare privacy regulations is ultimately your responsibility as a practitioner, including device-level safeguards (Face ID lock, encrypted backup settings, and your clinic's own policies). We recommend confirming Symetri fits your practice's compliance posture with your own advisor.
Face Alignment uses Apple's Vision framework to detect 78+ facial landmarks in both your before and after photos. It then calculates a Procrustes similarity transform — matching position, scale, and rotation — so the face appears at the same location in both images. This makes the before/after comparison far more meaningful, as differences in patient positioning between sessions are corrected automatically.
Eye Blur automatically detects and softly blurs the eye region of both images. It's designed for editorial privacy when sharing before & after content publicly or on social media — not as a HIPAA Safe Harbor de-identification method (which requires removing 18 specific identifiers). Eye Blur is optional, defaults to off, and can be toggled from the editing panel.
Yes. Symetri includes dedicated Eyes and Forehead profiles designed for Botox, Dysport, and other wrinkle-relaxer documentation. Landmarks lock onto the brow and eye region, so expression lines compare like-for-like across sessions — even with small head-position differences between appointments.
Yes. The Lips Profile zeroes in on the mouth region and aligns before and after photos tightly around the lip area — ideal for lip filler before and after, lip flips, and perioral treatments.
Symetri's AI alignment is face-specific — it uses facial landmarks and wouldn't benefit body-contouring shots (CoolSculpting, Morpheus8 body, Emsculpt). If you do both face injectables and body treatments, Symetri is purpose-built for the face side; you'll want a separate tool for body documentation.
Symetri is 100% on-device. Patient photos never upload to a server, no BAA is needed with Symetri, and there's no sign-up account. Cloud-based alternatives typically require a Business Associate Agreement, an account, and ongoing vendor-trust review. The trade-off: Symetri has no multi-device sync and no team dashboard — each practitioner's cases live on their own iPhone.
Symetri supports multiple export formats:
Still images: Side-by-side or slider comparisons in 1:1 (square), 4:5 (portrait), and 9:16 (Stories/Reels) aspect ratios.
Videos: Animated slider sweep or crossfade transition, exported as MP4 video.
All exports can include your clinic branding and custom labels. Exports are saved to your camera roll or can be shared directly via the iOS share sheet (AirDrop, Messages, email, Instagram, etc.).

Yes. You can upload your clinic's logo and set your clinic name and Instagram handle in Symetri's settings. These are overlaid on your exports via Classic, Borderless, or Framed templates. Branding is applied on-device — your logo is never uploaded to a Symetri server.
Symetri exports to the iOS Photos library and through the standard iOS share sheet. From there you can AirDrop to a desktop, use your EMR's mobile import feature, or attach to the patient chart manually. Symetri does not integrate directly with EMR/PMS platforms like Nextech, Aesthetic Record, or Boulevard at this time.
Yes. Symetri includes a bulk export / archive function to collect your cases into a single package for practice handover or closure. Because all data lives only on your iPhone, a full export from the app is your chain-of-custody handover record — no servers to decommission, no vendor to sign off.
Symetri is offline-forever by design. Because the app does all its work on-device with no server dependency, it keeps functioning on your iPhone even if the developer ceases operations — you don't get locked out of your cases. Your existing cases stay viewable; exports keep working. The only things that require an active subscription are creating new cases and editing beyond the free limit.
Face Alignment works best when the face is clearly visible, well-lit, and at a similar angle in both images. For best results:
• Ensure both photos have consistent, even lighting
• Avoid extreme head tilts or turned angles — front-facing works best
• Make sure the face fills a reasonable portion of the frame
• Use the "Crop Zoom" slider to fine-tune alignment if needed after the automatic step
If alignment doesn't detect correctly, try re-enabling it by toggling the Face Alignment button off and back on.

Symetri processes images on-device, which means performance depends on your iPhone model. For the best experience, we recommend iPhone 12 or newer. If you notice slowness:
• Close other apps running in the background
• Ensure your iPhone has sufficient free storage
• Restart the App
• For very high-resolution source photos, the App may take a moment to process — this is normal

In the case list (sidebar), swipe left on a case to reveal the delete option, then tap Delete. Alternatively, you can tap the case to open it, then tap the more options (⋯) button and select Delete Case. Deleted cases are removed from the App immediately and cannot be recovered.
Symetri requires iOS 17.0 or later, and is designed for iPhone. All current iPhone models (iPhone XS and later) that can run iOS 17 are supported. The App takes advantage of on-device AI capabilities available in modern iPhone hardware for the best performance.
Please email us at support@symetri.app with a description of the issue, the steps to reproduce it, and your iPhone model and iOS version. Screenshots or screen recordings are very helpful. We take bug reports seriously and aim to address them promptly.
