Download Symetri from the App Store and open it. Tap the "+" button to create your first case. Give it a name, choose a treatment type, then import your before and after photos from your camera roll. The App will guide you through the comparison and editing tools from there.
Yes, Symetri is free to download on the App Store. The core before & after comparison, editing, and export features are available without any subscription or payment. There are no hidden fees and no subscription required.
No. Symetri requires no account, no sign-up, and no email address. Open the App and start working immediately. Your data stays on your device — there's no cloud sync or online account associated with your usage.
No. All photos and patient cases are stored entirely on your iPhone. Nothing is ever uploaded to any server. Symetri has no backend — we literally have no infrastructure that could receive your data. All AI processing (face alignment, background removal) also runs locally on your device.
Symetri's architecture is designed with healthcare privacy in mind — all data is on-device, no cloud uploads occur, and there is no data collection of any kind. However, compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, or other healthcare privacy regulations is ultimately your responsibility as a practitioner. We recommend consulting your compliance advisor to confirm Symetri fits within your practice's workflows.
Face Alignment uses Apple's Vision framework to detect 78+ facial landmarks in both your before and after photos. It then calculates a Procrustes similarity transform — matching position, scale, and rotation — so the face appears at the same location in both images. This makes the before/after comparison far more meaningful, as differences in patient positioning between sessions are corrected automatically.
Eye Blur automatically detects and applies a subtle blur to the eye region of both images. This is designed to protect patient identity when sharing before & after content publicly or on social media. Eye Blur is an optional feature — you can toggle it on or off in the editing panel at any time. It defaults to off.
Symetri supports multiple export formats:

Still images: Side-by-side or slider comparisons in 1:1 (square), 4:5 (portrait), and 9:16 (Stories/Reels) aspect ratios.

Videos: Animated slider sweep or crossfade transition, exported as MP4 video.

All exports can include your clinic branding and custom labels. Exports are saved to your camera roll or can be shared directly via the iOS share sheet (AirDrop, Messages, email, Instagram, etc.).
Yes. You can upload your clinic's logo and set your clinic name in the App settings. These are then available to overlay on your exported images and videos. Branding is applied locally on your device — your logo is never uploaded anywhere.
Face Alignment works best when the face is clearly visible, well-lit, and at a similar angle in both images. For best results:

• Ensure both photos have consistent, even lighting
• Avoid extreme head tilts or turned angles — front-facing works best
• Make sure the face fills a reasonable portion of the frame
• Use the "Crop Zoom" slider to fine-tune alignment if needed after the automatic step

If alignment doesn't detect correctly, try re-enabling it by toggling the Face Alignment button off and back on.
Symetri processes images on-device, which means performance depends on your iPhone model. For the best experience, we recommend iPhone 12 or newer. If you notice slowness:

• Close other apps running in the background
• Ensure your iPhone has sufficient free storage
• Restart the App
• For very high-resolution source photos, the App may take a moment to process — this is normal
In the case list (sidebar), swipe left on a case to reveal the delete option, then tap Delete. Alternatively, you can tap the case to open it, then tap the more options (⋯) button and select Delete Case. Deleted cases are removed from the App immediately and cannot be recovered.
Symetri requires iOS 17.0 or later, and is designed for iPhone. All current iPhone models (iPhone XS and later) that can run iOS 17 are supported. The App takes advantage of on-device AI capabilities available in modern iPhone hardware for the best performance.
